Li Edelkoort, reknowned for her ability to predict the tides and turns of trends, returns to the Design Museum in Holon with an exciting new exhibition: Gathering. Gathering will showcase some of the innovative 132.5 collection by the fabled Japanese designer Issey Miyake. In the exhibit, Edelkoort draws together contemporary design themes that echo the traditional domestic skills which reflect the need to retain a connection to the authenticity of the craft: smocking, draping, pleating, quilting and baking.
In her explanation as to the thought behind the exhibit, Edelkoort said: “We are an unstitched society suffering from a lasting socio-economic crisis that has made us ferociously protective and egocentric. It is time for mending and gathering, thus restoring the fabric of society: picking up the pieces and bringing them together in a patchwork of possibilities; a quilt of substance, able to absorb shock and fear”
Design enthusiasts can check out the 132.5 Issey Miyake collection in the museum’s lower gallery.
