This is the most important art museum in Israel. Founded in 1932, its initial location was at the Rothschild Blvd, in the private home of Meir Dizengoff, the first Mayor of Tel Aviv.
Today its main building is located in Shaul Hamelech Blvd and right next to it, is the new, state of the art building, inaugurated in 2011 and designed by American architect Preston Scott Cohen.
The museum showcases Israeli artworks as well as extensive number of European artworks from the 16th to the 19th centuries, works by Rothko, Kandinsky, Van Gogh, Chagall and other impressive collections from many different disciplines.
