Where can you find a telescope, beautiful Persian rugs, Judaica items, traditional clothing from Uzbekistan, an ancient cannon on wheels, aging chandeliers, vintage clothes, and a handful of indescribable nobs, handles and buttons, all in the same place?
In the Jaffa flea market ( Shuk HaPishpeshim) of course! This display of great bargains alongside really funny useless items is the magic of this one of a kind market.
It is more than a hundred years old and divided into 3 main parts; the open pedestrian walk with vendors selling their merchandise on the sidewalk and under colourful verandas, 2 arcade-like alleys and another open area- all together they form this mixture of old and new, filled with restaurants, cafes and little shops that could only be seen there.
It’s one of the loveliest in Israel and definitely worth a visit; just a few meters away from the clock tower. Just don’t forget to practice on your bargain skills (remember- start with half a price and only then go up) as they will prove very useful while visiting this market.
