Shpagat is a notoriously laid back Tel Aviv gay establishment that operates as a chill coffee house (of course, you can always get a drink as well) during the morning and afternoon hours, but transforms into one of the most happening dance bars in the evening. Entrance is generally free, and the bar is lively throughout the week, but you should probably check your pretense at the door.
Shpagat’s owners Imri, Yael and Ran are leading figures in the Tel Aviv gay nightlife scene and have endeavored to make Shpagat more than just another place to party. It is open throughout the day from 10 am for anybody that wants to come and possesses a unique warmness during all hours that make it the perfect place to relax, have fun and socialize.
Aside from the welcoming and lively atmosphere, Shpagat also hosts art exhibition, record releases and DJs playing everything from pop and eclectic electronica to hip hop and oriental music.
The bar is located on Nahalat Binyamin Street in what is known as Tel Aviv’s Soho area, and the crowd is typically more mature, with entrance only for those 24-years and up. Even though the crowd is usually skewed towards gay males, Shpagat is an open establishment and lesbians (who have their own night) and straights are just as welcome.
Don’t hold your breath for a regular schedule of events at Shpagat. Every week is a new surprise.
And if you were wondering about the name, Shpagat means “splits” in Hebrew and refers to the shape of the bar.
