- Beit Maccabi Sports Center, 21 Golda Meir, Rishon LeZion
The knights and champions of the World Medieval Fighting Championship return to Israel for the second year in a row to do battle in the arena just like in medieval times, this time in the Beit Maccabi Sports Center in Rishon LeZion, just 8 kilometer (5 miles) south of Tel Aviv. This year, the Israeli team will host fighters from 7 countries, including France, Belarus, Denmark and Estonia.
WMFC events are more than just a reenactment of medieval battle. They are contests of skill and strength between competitors armed with medieval fighting gear, such as armor, shields and (blunted) swords. Participants are often trained in various combat techniques that, along with weigh class, determine their fight pairings.
Last year’s debut event was covered somewhat extensively by media outlets in Israel, as well as from some other participating countries, as the Israeli team hosted 7 fighters from 7 different countries – Russia, Ukraine, Estonia, France, Luxembourg, Latvia and Belarus – and won three matches.
