Renowned Japanese modern dance company Sankai Juku will return to Israel on December 12 for the first time in a decade to perform its latest work, “TOBARI —  As if in an Inexhaustible Flux.” The troupe has 4 shows scheduled at the Tel Aviv Opera House.

“Tobari” features eight dancers performing in the Bhuto dance form to music composed by Japanese artists  Takashi Kako, Yas-Kaz and Yoichiro Yoshikaw.

The New York Times extolled the company’s “visually compelling” performance, adding that “the stage picture was often mesmerizing.”

Sankai Juku was founded in 1975 by Ushio Amagatsu, who still serves as the director, choreographer and designer, as well as a dancer, for the group. Since first being invited to perform in Europe in 1980, the company has performed in 45 countries and 700 cities worldwide, while winning numerous awards in Japan and abroad.
